Did I tell you already that I am a „Beatles“ fan forever? Not? Ok, it may happen from time to time in this blog.
If you are more inclined towards the „Stones“, please forgive me and I hope this is not a showstopper for you to continue reading this blog. By the way, I like the „Stones“, too. (I like a lot of music, I may write about if from time to time. Because this is a blog about internal audit, coaching, training, culture and life. So basically, about everything)
But I digress as I wanted to tell something completely different. And that refers to the the title of today’s post, taking from the refrain of a wonderful John Lennon song (with which we would have created the connection to the „Beatles“ mentioned at the beginning).
„Starting over“ corresponds exactly to my current state of mind and there could be not better song to reflect this.
Why?
The whole thing has two dimensions. First, there is the blogging itself. I did it already in the past, preferably in German and most of the time about my travel experiences. Then I paused for some years (I can’t really tell you why, maybe it was just some kind of laziness). Now I am back, in English and with a new label and website: http://www.auditandmore.art. Which leads us directly to the second reason.
I am working now for almost 39 years in the financial industry, most of this time as „Internal Auditor“. I became 58 this year (yeah, I’ve started with work at the age of 19!). And to be honest, I see a lot of colleagues in my age retiring early, or at least thinking about it. And people asked me: „What about you? How many years do you have still to work?“ And my answer is always: „I don’t know. I have just have started over.“ And I get the one or other uncomprehending look: „At your age?“
Yep, at my age. Why not? Steve Winwood once sung „While you see a chance, take it!“ (yes, music is all time present in this blog) and that’s exactly what I have done. I saw a chance. And I took it. I saw the chance after almost 39 years doing more less the same, to become something different, a trainer and a coach for internal auditors. Since April this year (so still a short period of time), I experience the great feeling going to work and really doing what I love. And even if I should be the one who teach my colleagues, I recognize that I learn so much more for mself, day by day. But I don’t want to keep it to myself, I want to share it with everyone who is interested. And that’s why I reactivated my blog and that’s why I feel like I am „Starting Over“.
And of course, at the end of this post, I would like to share this wonderful song from John Lennon.
